Breakfast Culture Club

Henry Haber November 8, 2019

Featuring a group of guys this week, let’s take a look at our local favorites behind the idea of a diverse culture based coffee shop based in Santa Barbara. So why don’t you sit down and have a cup of coffee as you learn about the masterminds who cultivated an environment of creativity. Led by the visions of a world renown photographer, a professional surfer, and an artist/ entrepreneur, there is no shortage of style, perspective, and collaboration in their work. By the names of these three in the order introduced above, Morgan Maassen, Trevor Gordon, and Tosh Clements, have all contributed to making their coffee shop, Breakfast Culture Club, a sleek, stylized, and personal portrayal of how everyday life is seen through their eyes.

Starting off with the man whose life is seen in the medium of photography, Morgan Maassen has captured the essence of lighting to his coffee shop with an open shade style that is both welcoming and appealing. His ability to bring his modern and visually pleasing spaced out style of clean and dreamy photography into is line of work at the coffee shop shines through his collective display of timeless artwork on the walls. Tosh Clements with a similar direction of focus applies his knowledge of entrepreneurship and abstract lines with his paint brush to add his touch of upbeat out of the box ideas to this coffee shop. Trevor with his understanding of painting his own lines on the endless amounts of waves he rides allows him to contribute to the mass with his own creative endeavors.

Though each of these three are capable of capturing through several mediums of art, in the eyes of a photographer, painter, and surfer essentially, the results of their creations are an endless array of beauty, Together these three main intellects have created a remarkable coffee shop featuring an eclectic mix of visual arts and passion. They continue to connect various artists, photographers, writers, and organizations, including that of Demi Bolsterli and Andrew Schoener, through their experience as baristas in their small town shop that brings creative expression to the forefront.

Connect to these people, experience the beauty in their creative expression, and grab a cup of joe in their local coffee shop @Breakfastcultureclub!

Thanks for reading and I’ll see ya next week!

Sophie Haber: Seeds of Remembrance

Henry Haber November 8, 2019

Howdy everyone! It has only been a week yet it feels so long! This week I bring to you the ever so talented, beautiful, and free spirited soul that I am lucky to call my big sis, Sophie Haber. She leads a unique and diverse journey of pursuing her hearts desires in the most creative way possible. From creating essential oils to being both in front and behind the lens of a camera, to being one of the most important people to whom I look up to in my life, this girl’s heart is worn on her sleeve in her endeavors she wishes to pursue. One thing that is true to Soph is her ability to choose what she needs and narrow down to simplicity in which she excels in those aspects of her life. Where do we even begin with this girl’s ongoing journey of leading a life of passion?

How bout we start with the goofy Sophie that I can most relate to at this point of my life and start with when she was in my grade. Leading the path that I followed, Soph got her true first exposure to her realm of visual talents at the same Academy that I attend now. At MAD Academy at the Santa Barbara High School, Sophie started with the same blogging and experience behind the lens as well as in front of the lens finding her niche in the creative world. Ever since she stepped into the vast opportunity that visual arts has given her, she has cultivated her own style that she continues to build off of today. From here, she took her passion for photography and grew it into a tool for her to capture her perception on the whole gamut of life in her eyes.

In her most recent part of her life where she has taken her twenty-two year old self to the magical hinterlands of Byron Bay, Australia, she has started a new chapter in her life in the land down under. Still keeping that whacky soul of which I know all too well, and that missing tooth smile of hers alive, Sophie has blossomed into the divine woman that she is today. The world is her oyster in whatever path she chooses to follow. Stunning, creative, and with a heart of gold, Sophie is one to aspire to become more and more alike.

Follow her endeavors on her own website @sophieisadorahaber

Hope y’all enjoyed!

Ruby Haber: Soul Sister

Henry Haber November 8, 2019

Howdy everyone! I’m back with more to keep your eyes moving and you thoughts inspired. At least that’s the goal! Anyways, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the vital role that family has played in my life. I’ve been feeling extra grateful for those who I have been able to lean on my entire life these past couple days. Family for me has been a roller coaster of being pulled up as gravity wants to push me down and it has been a dance of learning and accepting things as they come. My family has been split up for a bit with one sister in Australia, the other in Seattle, and both my parents living in separate houses at home. Though it has been one heck of a ride in more ways than I can count, the four people are the ones who keep me going. As many of you might have noticed, I have written something up about my all of my family members who have inspired me the most except for one special girl. That of course is my sister, Ruby Haber.

Ruby Tuesday, Rubylishes, Rubybooby, and just about whatever you want to call her, this ray of light has been the one I saved for last. Short and sweet, Ruby is the middle child of the family and has always been the one to be the best with accepting change and learning with no strings attached. Her innate ability to find joy in just about everything she indulges in has taken her to the endless possibilities that await her now. She started off as the big sis that would dress me up like a girl and call me Patricia and not much has changed in her personality of being the goofball that I am thankful for today. Being the closest in age with the older sis that has been a prominent role model in my life has brought me the gift of having an easy path to follow that has already been paved out by my siblings who came before me.

Rubes has always been indecisive with what she wants to stick with as a main focus and the only thing it has brought me to realize other than the fact that I personally wouldn’t have that much patience to learn willingly, is that she is so talented at an immense variety of things. Whether it be directing, volleyball, or dancing and so on, Ruby is one to learn form in her ability to be so diversely gifted in so many areas. Go check out more about her story on social media @rubyhaber and experience her beauties for yourself.

Cheers!

The Surf Ranch: Innovation In The Water

Henry Haber November 4, 2019

Hey everyone! This week is especially important to me because it marks the last time I will be posting for quite a bit of time. This year has been an incredible year of change for me from a small private school that was very limiting, to a school that has brought endless opportunity knocking at my door. From new relationships to cultivating my love for media arts and pursuing my passion of volleyball as well as everything in between, I am so beyond thankful for everything that makes me who I am today. On that note, I’ll stop boring you with all this talk about me and let’s get to the story of a man with a plan and the community he has built around his passion. Recently inspired by a surfing event at a man made machine run wave, I wanted to share my once in a lifetime experience with you at professional surfer, Kelly Slater’s wave pool.

Last weekend, my pops, my best friend and I all roadtripped to the middle of nowhere in Lemoore, California. We stepped outside of the Westfalia (our house for the next two days) and it was so sureal to witness a surfable wave for the first time ever in the middle of California. It felt as if we were at Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory and I got the golden ticket. We were lucky enough to get locker room VIP passes where we hung out with some of my biggest surfing idols in the name of the game. So here we were witnessing history before our eyes.

It is crazy to think that the mastermind behind this new technology that brings the gift of surfing to people who can’t access the coast is an eleven time world champion professional surfer. Talk about an overachiever! Though it seems like an unattainable concept that someone so accomplished can only keep producing more and more to astonish the public, Kelly shares a trait of pursing his passion with numerous people today. Kelly has taken his drive in the surfing world and opened his mind to the immense opportunity that followed putting his heart into his passion and cultivating a career out of it. Check out more on the continuity of innovation lead by Kelly Slater @kswaveco.

To keep it short and sweet, I will leave you with my message that I am conveying of leading your life through your passion! Thank you for keeping up woth my stories I had to tell! Until next time!

Signing off,

Henry Haber
